10:16 a.m. - 2006-12-31 So this ice storm? Not good. Our lights were flickering on and off all night so we grabbed up the blankets, candles, lighters, flashlights, all of that jazz. Of course just like last week I didn't think we'd actually use them but a girl has to be prepared right? We hunkered down at 8 PM and watched "You, Me and Dupree" (which I liked and laughed alot, that crazy Owen Wilson and his hijinks!). It got over at 10:00 and Cass decided to go take a bath. While she was in said bath, the lights REALLY started flickering. Jax and I looked at each other and both thought it would be HORRIBLE to lose electricity while she's taking a bath because she will FLIP OUT! She's a very emotional and anxious child to start with and this would take her over the edge. She gets out of the bathtub, comes out into the hall wrapped in a big towel to tell me the lights flickered in there and I told her to go get dressed NOW in case the power went out. Just as soon as I said that....there went the lights. I was prepared for a full on flip out. Which never came! Probably because we were completely ready for this and the candles got lit immediately. I took a candle back with me and walked her to her room and she got dressed by candlelight. So we went outside and found out nobody had power either. Our cell phones weren't working, must have been our towers down or something but Diane's worked so I borrowed hers and called my mom to see if they had power. They did, so I knew we had plan B if we were crazy enough to drive over there in thick ICE to stay warm. Luckily around 12:30 the power went back on. Then I was able to stop obsessing about the shit ton of meat and milk I had in the fridge and freezer. It really wasn't that big of a deal, I mean if things started thawing we were just gonna throw that stuff outside because Lord knows it would have stayed cold. So I went back to sleep around 1 AM and woke up off and on throughout the night. WHen I woke up at 8:30 and looked at the clock it was all messed up again so I knew that at some point the electricity either flickered enough to screw things up or it went off for a while, I don't know which. So that's where we sit today. We have tons of food so we don't have to worry about that. We're not going anywhere. My car is covered in ice anyway and so are the roads. Pretty much everything is closed. I just worry about how I'm going to get to work tomorrow, if I need to go. I guess I'll cross that bridge when I get there. Happy New Year! Big stinkin deal, it's not like we're going anywhere.
