Birthday wrap-up 2007-01-13 10:36 p.m. My birthday party went off without a hitch. Well, any hitches that I knew of at the time, that is.

Apparently as people were showing up and visiting, waiting for the supper to get its final touches, Diane and Rebecca started up. They were apparently in a fight of some sort, I'm not sure why. I didn't hear any of it going down but Jax did. Rebecca didn't "feel well" (although she felt well enough to hit the bars later with her friends) and she wasn't sure she wanted to come over. Diane told her she could make an appearance. They got to arguing (this was outside, where Jax was grilling supper) and Jax told them both to knock it off and if they were going to bicker back and forth then they could BOTH stay home. Apparently it got all cleared up and nobody was the wiser.

Meanwhile in the house everybody who was invited showed up. We had a terrific supper. There were about 20 people here. I couldn't believe it. We had a wonderful supper of grilled pork steaks, cheesy hashbrown potatoes (Linda makes the BEST!), baked beans from Shawn and Laura, Diane's pink fluff which is to DIE for, some whole wheat rolls and butter and the kids had a selection of various meats and cheeses from a wonderfully gourmet tray from Sam's. We all got our fill.

After that I opened some gifts that a few people brought for me. We had asked that nobody bring gifts but nobody listened. I got some great stuff. Hitler got me a $20 gift cert to the salon and spa she works at, Steve and Linda got me this neat chocolate fondue pot shaped like a Hershey's kiss (do they know me or what???), Paulsen got me some random stuff that was WEIRD, a pair of brown jeans?!?! that were probably from the Goodwill and were still wet because she washed them ?!?! that weren't even the right size?!?! Anyway, it was the thought that counted right? And I have to say I'm a bit flattered she would think I wore that size (they were 2 sizes too small). I'm not speculating they were from the Goodwill, I'm quite sure they were. Because all the clothes she buys are from there. Her kids wear Goodwill clothes to school and church and just everywhere really. And the fact that she washed them pretty much gave it away. Now, I'm not knocking the Goodwill at all because it is very useful to many people, but I wouldn't just go buy a random pair of ugly brown jeans for somebody's birthday, especially not knowing what size they wear. But hey. That's Paulsen and if you know Paulsen, that's right up her alley for sure!

We had delicious white cake (compliments of Jada) and fudge swirl ice cream (thanks Mom!) and then we visited a bit more and pretty much everybody left. Most everybody was gone by 9:00 so it was an early night.

Other than the arrhythmia I had diagnosed, it was a great birthday.

Oh, did I fail to mention I was diagnosed with an arrhythmia? Crazy shizz huh? I went to a physical yesterday for another job I'm going to take (just intermittently -- whenever I want to work) and the RN said my heartbeat was irregular and my pulse was low. By the time I saw the doctor she listened and heard it too. The next thing I know I'm upstairs having an EKG. Weird huh? It turns out it's a sinus arrhythmia and quite common. When I got home I called my regular doctor (who I trust my life with -- and it's literally been in her hands several times) and I told her about the findings. She also told me it was normal and that it could just be from excessive caffeine (yeah, I'm sure that's it) or sleep deprivation (that might apply too). So I told her cool and that was that.

Turns out my father's blockage in his LAD (left anterior descending artery) in his heart is acting up again. He had a stent put in in the beginning of November and he had been feeling fine until this week he started having chest pains again. He went in and had a nuclear stress test which he promptly failed miserably. They sent him to his Cardiologist who set him up for another damn angioplasty for Monday. He's not thrilled about it, but knows he must get it taken care of again. That man and his heart! He's scaring the shit out of me, he'd better straighten up :)

Today I slept in till about 10:45 and couldn't have been happier. It was a pretty lazy morning and afternoon. We picked up my sister (who still can't drive after her surgery) and her two kids and they came over and hung out. We finished our parakeet puzzle and that was cool. Yeah, we're wild ones over here, putting together mad puzzles because we're gangsta.

We left and got groceries around 5:00 and decided to stop at Wendy's for a cheap, fast dinner. Just as we were unloading all of the groceries, Cass called and wanted to be picked up because she was sick.

Sometimes I have a hard time believing she's sick because she'll fake sick just to come home. But when she got home and I saw her, I knew she wasn't faking. She put on her PJ's and immediately went to lay down. And that was at like 6:15. She had a bit of soup and by 7:30 was zonked to the world. She ran a temp of 100.6 so I've kept her full of ibuprofen and Tylenol. She's currently feeling better and back in bed. I hope it's a quiet night but we shall see. Poor thing. She looks horrible. I hope by tomorrow she's feeling better.

And that so far is how my weekend is going. Tomorrow afternoon I have tickets to see a very cool concert that I've been dying to see and whether Cass and Jax go depends on how the kid is feeling come morning. I'm still going regardless. But if she's still down then Jax will HAPPILY stay home and take care of her. Jax never wanted to go in the first place so when she's volunteering to stay home with a sick kid, you know she'd rather be home. And that's cool.

So here's hoping my kid is feeling better by tomorrow and if not, I may have to open up the bottle of wine that Diane gave me for my birthday. HA! HA! HA!

Hope you are all having a wonderful weekend.

PROFILE

I am a 34-year-old college student, mom, friend and all around sarcastic and fun loving person. I'm going to school to be a nurse. I recently quit a high paying job from home to get back into the hospital setting and to get my feet wet in nursing. I work on the Maternal Child Unit which includes the birthing center, perinatal care and Pediatrics. I LOVE IT! These last few years have been all about changes in my life. Although they have required great sacrifice, I know it will be worth it when I'm through. I have a great life and great family and friends and occasionally bitch about my white trash neighbors. Mostly here you will find rants and raves about various people, places, and circumstances. ENJOY!

Loves: Nursing, chocolate, my daughter, family and friends, diet coke, Grey's Anatomy (DUH!), being out of my front patio in the summertime with my neighbors, babies, US Weekly magazine, reality TV, being smart and being a mother.
Hates: Chemistry, online cyberstalkers who have no life but to be online 24/7 causing drama, my white trash neighbors, pepporoni pizza, mice, bugs, when it's too hot outside and I get sweaty, seafood, backstabbing people, liars, crooks, and when people play the "victim" and whine 24/7.
