It was DEFINITELY Friday the 13th!!! 2007-04-13 10:47 p.m. Today was just a weird day at work. All sorts of out of this world shit, all balled into one 12-hour shift.

Take for instance the 50-something year old woman who has a stuffed animal and a purple shoulder pad she has named bam-bam. And I'm not kidding. Somebody brought her in flowers and visited and she leaned over to whisper to her stuffed animal "oh look we got flowers!". Apparently she dropped her purple shoulder pad on the floor when a nurse was in there and she said "oh, I'm sorry Bam Bam, I didn't mean to hurt you!" She sleeps with the stuffed animal AND the shoulder pad. Who does that?

I guess it's a way to recycle your old stuffed shoulder pads from the 80s right? Use them as pets!!!

I wish I was joking. But I'm not.

We had six deliveres today. Which is quite a few for one day. And the thing is, I'm sure there was still a few more before the evening was over. There are days we have none. Then BOOM everybody comes in and has their babies. Which is still fun and all, but not AS fun when you are the only aid on the floor and you have six new moms and babies to acquaint yourself with and take care of them, added to all the other mommies and babies and med/surg patients. Did I mention I was the only aid on? It was crazy. But...it certainly wasn't the craziest day I'd ever had. Oh no, I can beat that by a mile. All in all it was just a weird day. And I'm glad it's over and I have the weekend to regroup and chill.

So I'm sitting in the cafeteria this morning with three co-workers eating breakfast. We're sitting at a table right next to one of the big windows. Out of the corner of my eye I see somebody come up to the window, knock on it and put their face up to it and wave. I wave back. Everyone laughs and is all..who is that? I roll my eyes and tell them that is my mother. She can be a bit crazy at times. So she came in and chatted for a bit. She was there to visit my little step-niece who is hospitalized. I'm not sure what the girls thought, but they could have thought my mom was off her rocker. And that would be a very safe assumption some days.

Snow schmow. We didn't get any of the white stuff like they had predicted. Thank goodness! It wasn't even really that cold today. Tomorrow it's supposed to be in the 50s. Which is a major heat wave from the last few weeks. Tomorrow we might go to the Husker spring football game. We have to iron out the details on that yet and see if we're gonna go. It would be fun though and something definitely different.

And last but certainly not least, the assignment that I worked SIX HOURS on on Monday is apparently all wrong. So I must redo it. I did get an 88 which isn't bad (although I don't usually get grades with 8's in them) but I think I'll redo it to see if I can't raise that up a bit. I apparently didn't understand what I was supposed to do at all, which isn't really a surprise since it's an online course and I'm not a fan of the online course. It's technically my last paper of the class so I'm a bit stressed because it's the hardest one by far and I really want nothing other than to not do it and screw off the next two weeks. However, that isn't an option. So I guess my ass will be working on it and doing some more research. Have I mentioned I hate research? Shit, I'm probably not in the right field if I say that, but let me tell you, I'm counting down the YEARS until I graduate.

I vow to take the summer off, watch lots of movies I've been meaning to catch up on AND read books. Wonderful books. Trashy novels if I so choose, legal thrillers, love stories. I miss books. I miss getting lost in a story, picturing the characters and their lives and being encompassed in the pages. And especially not reading a book that requires me to take a test after I'm finished reading it.

Oh sweet bliss. The summer is upon us and I, for one, could not be happier.

PROFILE

I am a 34-year-old college student, mom, friend and all around sarcastic and fun loving person. I'm going to school to be a nurse. I recently quit a high paying job from home to get back into the hospital setting and to get my feet wet in nursing. I work on the Maternal Child Unit which includes the birthing center, perinatal care and Pediatrics. I LOVE IT! These last few years have been all about changes in my life. Although they have required great sacrifice, I know it will be worth it when I'm through. I have a great life and great family and friends and occasionally bitch about my white trash neighbors. Mostly here you will find rants and raves about various people, places, and circumstances. ENJOY!

Loves: Nursing, chocolate, my daughter, family and friends, diet coke, Grey's Anatomy (DUH!), being out of my front patio in the summertime with my neighbors, babies, US Weekly magazine, reality TV, being smart and being a mother.
Hates: Chemistry, online cyberstalkers who have no life but to be online 24/7 causing drama, my white trash neighbors, pepporoni pizza, mice, bugs, when it's too hot outside and I get sweaty, seafood, backstabbing people, liars, crooks, and when people play the "victim" and whine 24/7.
